Glastonbury Tarot
The Glastonbury Tarot is centered around the history and myths associated with Glastonbury, a small town in Somerset, England. This town and the region around it has long been a focus for sacred and mystical traditions. There is a strong energy and luminous quality to the light in this area. Deck designer Lisa Tenzin-Dolma lives in Glastonbury. She devoted 20 months to this project, often modeling the figures on the cards after friends who captured a card's archetypal message. She feels Glastonbury is a "...place set apart ... a land where time moves different courses, and where realities shift and merge...." Each card in the major arcana shows a bright image with the card number, traditional name and related name from pagan, Christian or Arthurian lore. The four suits are the staffs, chalices, swords and vesicas. The Vesica Pisces is a symbol on the cover of Chalice Well, a sacred spring in this region. In the companion book The Glastonbury Tarot, Tenzin-Dolma describes the story behind each major arcana card. She also explains all the 78 card images and offers divinatory meanings.
