Light and Shadow Tarot
German-born artist Michael Goepferd created the Light and Shadow Tarot to embody "the contrast between light and dark, heavy and light, feminine and masculine." Goepferd chose linoleum block printing as his artistic medium. He began with the major arcana, but became so involved in the process over time that the designs for the Queens came to him in dreams. The images are rich in detail and symbolic meaning. Most are based on traditional tarot imagery, but Goepferd has incorporated his own vision as well. The court cards are the Queen, King, Princess and Prince with the feminine cards taking precedence. The accompanying book The Light and Shadow Tarot is written by Brian Williams (194 pages). Williams is also the creator of the Renaissance Tarot, Minchiate Tarot and Ship of Fools Tarot.
