Merlin Tarot

[Universe] [Ace of Birds] The Merlin Tarot by R. J. Stewart is drawn from the world view of Merlin, a twelfth century visionary. Merlin's cosmology was written down by Geoffrey of Monmouth in his life of Merlin and prophecies. Stewart has found many parallels between Merlin's vision and traditional tarot archetypes. This deck follows the usual tarot structure except the cards have been renumbered. Each one shows the image with the card's name and number. The four suits are the serpents, beasts, fishes and birds. The numbered suit cards show the animal icon of the suit. The court card ranks are not given, but can be guessed from the picture. The latest edition of this deck comes as a set with the companion book The Merlin Tarot by Stewart. This book is a shortened version of the original book published with the first edition. The larger book is now separately published as The Complete Merlin Tarot. The artist is Miranda Gray.
