Tarot of the Origins
The Tarot of the Origins captures the "raw, primal archetypal conditions" of early mankind. The images of artist Sergio Toppi are pen and ink and watercolor. They are designed to elicit powerful feelings from deep within the human psyche. Each card is dominated by the image, with only the card's number and name added (in six languages). Many of the major arcana have been renamed: the High Priestess is the Great Mother and Judgement is the Prey. The minor arcana suits have become the soul (cups), jewels (pentacles), nature (wands) and blood (swords). Each is represented by a different color. The court cards also reflect Toppi's primal theme. The new names are the child (page), animal (knight), woman (queen) and man (king). This deck was originally released in 1991 as a majors-only deck. This new version is a full 78-card deck. This deck is also included in the Comparative Tarot. The Tarot of the Origins is produced by Lo Scarabeo in Italy, but is distributed in the US by Llewellyn.
