Ralph Blum created the Rune Cards as a way to expand upon the traditional stark, rune glyphs. Working closely with artist Jane Walmsley, Blum crafted images that are visual metaphors of the essential meanings of the runes. Each card shows a symbolic scene with the rune number and a keyword meaning at the bottom. Hidden within each scene is the traditional form of the corresponding rune. Blum is also the author of the Book of Runes which contains actual rune stones. The two oracles complement each other. The Rune Card set comes with a companion book The Rune Cards: Ancient Wisdom for the New Millenium. The interpretations in this book are the same as those in the Book of Runes, but the rest of the text is new. Blum offers some rune history, games and spreads. There are two special chapters on using runes for healing and dreaming.
