Radiant Rider-Waite Tarot
The Radiant Rider-Waite is a new version of the popular Rider-Waite deck. Artist Virginijus Poshkus has redrawn and recolored the original card images by artist Pamela Colman Smith. The main difference between the two decks is that the Radiant features rich, vibrant colors without the black-line shading typical of the Rider-Waite. Color choices match for the most part, but the Radiant's are deeper. There are also some major differences such as the background for the Hanged Man (left). The Radiant emphasizes the aura highlights on the aces (right) and other cards with this effect. Actually, in style, this new deck more closely resembles the Universal Waite, but the colors in that deck are soft and mild. Also the faces on some cards in the Radiant seem less idealized, more individual (see the High Priestess below). Both the Universal Waite and Radiant have a slicker paper stock than the Rider-Waite. There are many other Waite variations as well.
