Tarots of the Sphynx

[World] [Ace of Swords] There has long been an association between the tarot and the culture and religion of ancient Egypt. Artist Silvana Alasia blends these two in the Tarots of the Sphynx. Her images combine Egyptian art, symbols, gods and hieroglyphic writing. Patches of color have been "rubbed off" to create an aged effect. At the top of each card is the number and name in four languages. At the bottom is the name in Italian. The aces are numbered "1" and show an animal sacred to the ancient Egyptians. The minor arcana suit symbols are traditional except for ankhs instead of pentacles. Knights are riderless horses. Nefertari's Tarot is a mirror-image reversal version of this deck with gold foil background and trim. The Tarots of the Sphynx is included in the Comparative Tarot. The Tarots of the Sphynx is published by Lo Scarabeo of Italy and distributed by Llewellyn in the US.
